Wasfia Nazreen. An icon of freedom and empowerment to Bangladeshi women. Restless since young age and with adventure in her blood, Wasfia ran to the top of the hill next to her childhood residence before everyone else could. And apparently that ascendance never stopped.
Wasfia started her campaign Bangladesh on seven summits, aimed at climbing the apex points in each continent, to prove women’s strength before the world, thus reaching the highest peak on the earth, Mount Everest. And she dedicated her victory to the women of Bangladesh.
Defying all social bigotry, she maintained her own style while representing the women of a third-world country.
“The world is a small place and we all have social responsibilities. The younger generation should get involved in social works in some forms. We have to remember that all of our actions have effects on others,” she said.
Recently, National Geographic Society selected her as one of the top 10 ‘Adventurers of the Year’ for 2014-15. A pride of Bangladesh, Wasfia represents Asia in the competitive world.
